We pride ourselves on providing a good value service that improves our environment. Green waste composting:
- Reduces the use of manufactured fertiliser (which produces a lot of greenhouse gases)
- Improves soil structure and workability
- Increases microbial activity
- Improves soil nitrogen supply
COMPOSTING
Composting is nearly as old as the planet we live on; it is nature’s way of recycling the nutrients from dead plant matter.
Using green waste to produce compost is a perfect fit with an arable farm. The compost we produce is spread back on the land to help our crops grow.
HOW WE PRODUCE OUR COMPOST
You will drop off your green waste at the reception yard at Tanyard Farm. After checking for litter it is mixed and moved to our dedicated compost pad. Good quality compost requires the correct blend of woody and green material. Once mixed we monitor the temperature and moisture content regularly. High temperatures break down the material and ensure any nasty bugs are killed. After 6-8 weeks the composting process is complete and it is ready to be spread on the land.
The charity WRAP (Waste Resources Action Programme) has been testing compost use in agriculture extensively for the last few years. Please see their independent research for evidence of the benefits of green waste compost.
PROMOTING YOUR BUSINESS
