WASTE CARRIERS LICENCE

From January 2014 you should have registered if you transport any kind of waste regularly as part of your business. If you are stopped and don’t have a licence then the fine is up to £5,000.

If you just transport garden waste then you need a LOWER TIER registration. This is free and lasts forever.

When you get to the 4th question:
Say that you ‘need a lower tier registration’

This is because you only carry waste produced by your own business and it’s not construction or demolition waste.

• A Lower Tier licence is definitely free and lasts forever. Do not get conned by websites that say they will do the application for you but charge a fee.
• You will be given a Licence registration (usually CBDL then a number). Please pass this on to us. We also recommend you print off the Licence and keep it in your vehicle. We have had numerous companies thankful that we have advised this – they get stopped by the Police or the Environment Agency and they can quickly show them they are registered. It is also a good thing to show to your customers when you are pitching for a job.
